The Shinjin-Ou tournament is a Japanese professional go competition.

The Shinjin-Ou tournament was comprised of a 33-player tournament for players 30 and under (as of April 1st) who were 7-dan and under. The winner of the Shinjin-Ou does not sit as titleholder and wait for a challenger; he bypasses the preliminary, but is seeded into next year's tournament.

As of its 31st iteration in 2006, the age restriction was lowered to players 25 and under who were also 7-dan and under.

As of its 33rd iteration in 2008, the dan restriction was lowered to 6-dan and under. The winner "graduates" from the Shinjin-Ou and is no longer eligible to participate; as a result, the number of participants in the main tournament was lowered to 32.

32 players participate in the main tournament. 20 are seeded directly, and 12 progress from the preliminary.

Seeds:

  • The Nihon Ki-in seeds its 16 top players based on prize money won.
  • The Kansai Ki-in seeds its top 4 players based on prize money won.

Preliminary:

  • The top 8 players in the preliminary held by the Nihon Ki-in progress to the main tournament.
  • The top 4 players in the preliminary held by the Kansai Ki-in progress to the main tournament.

The final match-up is played as a best-of-3 series.
